Hello. I haven't posted here in a while, so why not give some updates?
First of all, here are some pretty dominant colonies still going strong. Neostylopyga rhombifolia and Periplaneta americana.
So first of all, on 25/5/2025, I went to a pretty small unused patch of grass or land to see what I could find.
The area around here is quite abundant in invertebrate species, and reptiles too.
I found a lot of species, such as earwigs, spiders, roaches, moths, etc.
But the ones that I will be mainly focusing on are a species of roach that I collected here. Lobopterella dimidiatipes
L. dimidiatipes is a small, wingless species of roach that to my knowledge isn't too commonly kept around the hobby. They are a stunning species though, having some very nice looking pattern.
I collected a few of these nymphs from there, and I kept them in a little cup with sphagnum and bark.
Just three days later, on the 28th of May the first adult matured.
As you can see above, the mature specimens have vestigial wings, with two little spots on them.
Safe to say these are included in some of my favorite roach species (that I own).
And soon enough, a second one matured. Luckily enough, they just so happened to be a pair, so of course after about just over a month, I spotted this
A heavily gravid female!
I was quite excited to see this. I've heard that they produce a fairly good amount of nymphs aswell.
Just a day ago (1/7/2025) from when I'm posting this, I spotted that female airing out the ootheca.
Very exciting. Hope that I can raise these guys well, and I will provide future updates.
Anyway, that's all for this species. Now moving on to a location that I've posted about previously, brastagi.
This location is not too far from where I live, and I occasionally visit and the invertebrates I spot there are pretty nice.
I'm not going to go through all here but just some highlights and (in my opinion) good finds.
This is one of my main collection spots
To be honest it doesn't look like there would be much living here, but there is.
Here are some of my favorite finds
These two species
Dindymus thunbergi
Euagoras plagiatus
And there's this guy I spotted
I assume its Microhyla fissipes, ornate chorus frog.
I did bring home a few roaches from here too, firstly is Blattella asahinai.
I think I was keeping them too try the last time I kept them. This time I will keep them more humid like where I collected them.
These are basically like the forest/field cousins of the infamous German cockroach
And to finish this post, there's this little guy I spotted. Not sure what it is, but it looks quite interesting. I initially got some nymphs aswell but unfortunately didn't make the trip home, so I only got this adult.
And that's all. Thank you for reading and hope you have a great day/night 👍
